STEP
Validate the Measurements (middle pages of the report)
Don’t try to analyze the spectral data, just give it a quick review to determine if it is good or invalid. (The tester
will analyze the data for you.)
Do the peaks line up with the orders? (correct
speed)
Is there a high noise loor? (sensor not mounted
securely)
Is there anything unusual? (operating conditions,
foundation resonance, adjacent machine vibration)
If the data is invalid, the report is invalid. Measure
again and diagnose again.
For more detailed information, see page 114
and 115.
STEP
Check the Cited peaks (the page right before the last page of the report)
Do the Cited Peaks support the results of the diagnostic report?
If the setup and measurements (data) are good, then the diagnosis is good. Unless the report recommends further
testing for a non-standard fault, there is no need to forward the report to a consultant. If you agree with the rec-
ommendation, then repair the machine.
